Cemetery fence
We created our own cemetery "wrought iron" fence by using 2 by 4 wood, 1" pvc pipe, 3" pvc and rebar metal. For each fence section you need 2 two by four strips of wood with 6 evenly spaced holes drilled in them. The holes need to be 1" in size. The pvc pipe needs to be cut in lengths of about 42". Insert the 6 pvc pipes in the holes of one piece of wood and slide wood up about 6". Next, insert the second piece of wood at the other end of the pipes and move it down about 6" . This makes one section of fencing. We sprayed ours black with flat black spray paint. To connect the fence use the 3" pvc piping. You can cut 2" slots 6" from the top and bottom to hook the 2 by 4s in. Hammer the rebar into ground, put 3" pvc pipe over it and coonect your fence sections by inserting them into the slots. You can purchase a variety of things to use for finials in the top of the pvc pipes. There are skeleton or pumpkin whistles that fit or plastic skull heads. We used black disposable plastic cups and cut them into triangles, bent them and inserted them into the pvc to look like spikes. Creepy cloth gauze ![]() This year my favorite new product was the gauze Creepy Cloth. It came in lengths of about 8 feet and various shades of beige, gray and black. Not only was it great for monster veils or shredded looking curtains I threw the beige ones over all my furniture in the living room. It gave it a nice haunted house effect! Tombstones ![]() We make our tombstones using the sheets of foam insulation that they sell at Lowe's and Home Depot. It is really easy to work with and inexpensive. You can cut it with a variety of tools and it doesn't crumble like Styrofoam. We carve them, gauge them and spray them with granite look spray paint. We got really tired of all the store bought tombstones only saying RIP or Rest in Peace so we never write that on ours. We have a variety of sayings like: Our Beloved, Dearly Beloved, Recently Departed, Lost but not Forgotten and just plain Dead! Sky ghosties
These are my favorite little effects and every year we get tons of comments on them. We took see through children's hangers and fastened small plastic skulls on the tops of them. The skulls we used had little hooks for hanging on the tops of them. We used gauze and draped and glue gunned it over the hangers (like shoulderrs) and over the skulls. I used lightweight florist wire and fashioned bony fingers. We covered the wire with masking tape which as it ages looks like yellowing skin. We attached the hands with wire to the hangers and the gauze so that they look like they are reaching out to fly. My husband tied heavy duty fishing line on the hooks in their heads. Our next door neighbors have a two story house so he attached and eye hook with a line of fishing hook to it. He stretched the fishing line tight and connected it to a rebar pipe hooked on to our chimney. We then fastened the ghosties to the line of fishing line and they hover and float high above our cemetery. They look great at night and people always say how real they look. |
