The first year we were married we discovered that Halloween was our favorite holiday. After the inside of the house was decorated we decided to put something on the exterior too. We took an old white sheet and fashioned a ghost out of it and hung it up by our front door. It wasn't very scary but back then they didn't sell a lot of Halloween yard decorations so at least it made a statement. Much to our surprise someone stole it the first week we put it out! The next year Mike made a smaller ghost that hung beside our garage. He attached fishing line to it and connected it to our screen door. Much to our delight, every time you opened the screen door the ghost flew up and down by the garage! We received so many comments about it our creativity sparked and we began our Haunted Cemetary complete with tombstones, lighting, fog, blacklights and strobes. We built over thirty monsters and ghouls who stand watch in our graveyard. This is our thirteenth year and we continue to create monsters and scary effects in our lab (also known as our garage). We have over five hundred trick or treaters on Halloween night and hundreds of spectators walking through and driving by the entire month of October. On Halloween night many of our monsters come to life and frighten the unsuspecting . Our four daughters gave up the candy years ago to help us haunt in our yard. We are now known as the "Halloween House" in our neighborhood and are recognized throughout the year as haunted house residents. |
